Stab Wounds and Various Sundries

09.23.21

I GOT STABBED.

Picture it, Sicily, 1922... just kidding, I'm not that old. I'm still only 14 x 3 / 2 + 42. Anyway, my Girl Friday and her husband came for a visit and we were going to have such a nice time around the fire. Adult bevvies, and hot dogs, and roasted marshmallows. WONDERFUL! So, I have these new roasting forks that extend, and for some stupid reason, they put the thickest zipties ever on these things to keep them from moving. So I get out my scissors. They don't even make a dent. I get out one of my EDC knives (yes, ONE OF), and manage to cut through a few after a few tries.

I'm at the second-to-last tie, and my knife slips, and I suddenly became Arya Stark (sticking 'em with the pointy end). And it wasn't just one of those cuts that kind of slowly bleeds, it was pouring. All down my hand, down my sleeve, all over the floor and counter. My kitchen was suddenly a veritable murder scene for how much blood was everywhere. In an attempt to slow the flow, I found the only bandages in the vicinity - tiny "The Good Dinosaur" bandages. The Good Dinosaur wasn't so good at stopping the flow and was instantly overcome by the volume, so much so that the sticky parts lost their stickiness!

I wander outside after cleaning up the roasting sticks and ask my daughter to go find her medic kit (bear in mind: she is 5 years old and is already learning how to properly clean and dress wounds - start them young, seriously). So, in she goes and finds her kit and comes out to assist me with my soon-to-be-mortal wound.

Last night, it was bad enough that I hardly slept. I got about 3.5 hours of sleep, waking up at 3:30AM because the side of my knuckle is aching so bad.

One would imagine that over all the years that I've been alive, I'd have learned how to be a bit more careful when it comes to knives. I have various scars all over my hands from having cut myself here and there. But no, I'm 8 x 2 + 4 x 6 - 3, and I still have a problem with not bleeding out all over everything after using a knife.

Deep Thoughts

If you can't read words on a screen, you shouldn't be transcribing for genealogical records.
